Léon Spilliaert

Vacant spaces. Absences... A bedroom: neat, melancholy. Light and shadows — but shadows, mostly. Thin reflections on empty bottles. Haunted self-portraits. The beach at Ostende: the surf in the distance, colonades receeding, ghostly figures crossing the wasteland. Ghouls? No. Just other people.
I was looking for something else when I found the wonderful drawings of turn of the century Belgian artist Léon Spilliaert.
